The sword
of the Brightblades is a splendid two-handed sword, one of the finest
swords dwarves have ever produced for humans. It is old fashioned with
a beautiful golden dragonhead carved into the hilt and powerful
dwarven runes of friendship and peace down the entire length of the
blade. It is considered to be one of the finest swords dwarves have
produced for humans. The Brightblade is approximately 3000
years old, but the blade is still as un-marred as it was the day it
was forged.
History:
In the time of Vinas Solamnus, one of Sturm's ancestors, Berthel (he
taken the surname Brightblade later), defended a lone dwarven noble
from a tribe of hobgoblins. Dwarf promised a reward to Berthel and one
year later a delegation of dwarves brought a beautifully shining
two-handed sword to Berthel's stronghold. The sword was engraved and
enchanted with dwarven runes of friendship and peace. It bore the name
Brightblade.
Berhel
accepted the sword and took Brightblade as his surname. He served
under the command of Vinas Solamnus against the Ergothians during the
Rose Rebellion. Berthel became a trusted lieutenant of Vinas Solamnus.
When
Berthel grew old, he passes Brightblade to his only child, Bedal. He
defended a strategic pass from desert nomads and proved himself as
heroic as his father.
The sword
continued its history with the family for the next tree millenia, with
a few minor diversions. After the Cataclysm, the owner of the
Brightblade was slain and it was lost to ogres. Bayard Brightblade's
(a descendant of Bedal Brightblade) Knight Quest was to retrieve the
Brightblade. He returned the Brightblade in a week and Knightly
Council awarded him his knighthood. Then Brightblade passes to Bayard
Brightblade's adopted son, Galen Pathwarden di Caela Brightblade. When
Bayard's true son came of age, Galen passed the sword to him.
Through
history sword passed to Emelin Brightbladeand then Angriff
Brightblade. The sword was lost during the peasant rebellion called
the Outcrying. When Sturm came from Solace to seek his father, he
claimed his inheritance and faced down Lord Wilderness' challenge of
the heart. Sturm fell at the Tower of High Clerist during the War of
the Lance and the Brightblade has come to represent the ideal of the
knighthood.
