Gilean is the patriarch of the Neutral gods. He guards the book of all knowledge and true names, the Tobril. Before the creation of the universe the High God wrote the Tobril, but could not find a god trusting enough to guard it. Finally, after searching time and space, the High God found Gilean and gave him the Tobril, and Gilean learned how to become a god. Gilean's job is to lead the Neutral gods in balancing good and evil so they don't destroy creation. Astinus of Palanthas is rumored to be Gilean in avatar form, but no proof has ever been found.
